Check out this shot of the State Historic Museum in Moscow! In some parts of the world Christmas is celebrated on January 6th and 7th due to the Eastern Orthodox church adhering to the Julian calendar. In Russia, after evening worship, a special meatless meal is shared when the first star appears in the sky. ”Santa”, known as Ded Moroz (“Grandfather Frost”) brings gifts to children and places them under the New Year’s Eve tree.
Here’s the Capitol Building, a shot from our shoot in Washington D.C. for Season 3!
How do Americans celebrate Epiphany? In Colorado with festive fruitcake tosses, in Louisiana, with “King Cakes” of cinnamon, cream cheese or strawberry to celebrate the start of Carnival season. See if you’re seasonally savvy and answer this question about the celebration of Epiphany on January 6th.
Epiphany is a:
A) Celebration of when the three wise men (or Magi) visited baby Jesus
B) Time for get-togethers to clean up after festivities and put away Christmas decorations
C) Celebration of when John the Baptist baptized Jesus in the River Jordan
D) All of the Above
This photo captures the elegance and beauty of the grand dining hall at the Palacio Real de Madrid. A favourite holiday in Spain was the Feast of St. Stephen celebrated in the Western Church on December 26th, and the Eastern Church on December 27th. It commemorates St. Stephen, the first Christian martyr. The feast is especially popular in Catalonia, and includes food like Canelons stuffed with ground turkey or rooster left over from Christmas dinner.
This photo was taken in London during our shoot at the Royal Maritime Museums, Greenwich. It’s a clue to our trivia question! (They celebrate Boxing Day in the UK)
See if you can tell us what Boxing Day is… -> ?
A) A holiday where servants and tradesmen would receive gifts of thanks from their superiors
B.) A shopping holiday in Canada, the UK, New Zealand and Australia
C.) A secular holiday but has ties to St. Stephen’s Day
D.) All of the above
